With Labor Day weekend only two weeks away (the summer truly flew), I am already getting excited for another long holiday weekend. I am heading up to Maine, where I am told we will essentially be in the middle of nowhere, spending a lot of time outdoors. I am not opposed to becoming more “one with nature”, but let’s just say I still struggle to kill any bugs found in my apartment. Living in Manhattan I often forget that where there are creatures, there should be a wilderness.
With that, talk of the trip is reminding me of childhood camp-outs and the food that came with them. These “s’mores” don’t look like your average cupcake, but the “graham crackers” are indeed cupcake, while the chocolate (Hershey’s) and marshmallows are true to a real s’more recipe.
I can’t wait to spend a few days not worrying about checking my email, Facebook, etc. and getting back to the more carefree activities I remember enjoying so much when I was younger. If I have any say, making real s’mores will fall into this category, as they are as simple to make (as were these) as desserts come. The more burnt, melted, and gooey they are, the better.
